THE STORY

Located in Southern California, Assembly Supplies has helped the region to overcome the water
shortage and everlasting drought. Working with a local Civil Engineering company we provided several
of the welding tools necessary to fabricate the exposed geomembrane liner system of the Olivenhain
Dam. Developed by the San Diego County Water Authority (SDCWA) Emergency Storage Plan, The 139-million-dollar project set out to build a 318ft high roller compacted concrete (RCC) dam with the capacity to store more than 24,000 acre-feet of water. Once completed it would be the tallest dam of itstype in North America.

What part did we play in this? Assembly Supplies sells the entire line of Leister hot air welding
tools, including those used in Civil Engineering. What was needed for this job though was something
that could be used to weld up the side of a 318ft tall vertical face. It was decided that the all-purpose
Triac Drive would work best because of its unique design and size. The welders were suspended high up
alongside the concrete dam where the geomembrane material was overlapped and draped hundreds of
feet. Slowly working from the top down they welded while continuously lowering themselves down the
318ft face, making sure to material and weld smooth and straight with the Triac Drive.
